Bed Bugs!

As we were laying in bed late at night getting ready to fall asleep, we discovered a bed bug crawling on the covers. We had only been using one of the two queen beds, so we quickly looked at the other bed. Without even touching the sheets, we saw two additional bed bugs crawling on this bed. Seeing 3 bed bugs actively crawling on both beds in the room, we knew this was an infestation and packed up everything as quickly as we could and went downstairs. The lady at the front desk seemed very distraught about the bed bugs, but offered no apology, only another room. We moved into the new room and deeply inspected every corner of both beds. We thankfully found no obvious signs of bed bugs, but still could not sleep since we were so worried. At this point it was very late at night and finding a new hotel seemed too exhausting. The next morning, we stopped by the front desk again and spoke to both the general manager and assistant general manager. They were both extremely apologetic and understanding and offered to give us a full refund and 25k Marriott points. However, in hindsight, this feels like they just wanted to get us out the door. It has been almost 30 days since we checked out and we have still not received anything, despite multiple attempts to contact them to get an update. We have since had to pay out of pocket to get all of our clothes and luggage cleaned to avoid bringing any bugs into our home.

I've seen some complaints about this place and can honestly say I don't know what those folks are griping about because we had a wonderful stay. No bedbugs, no surly staff, no major issues. We came to Dallas for the April 8 total solar eclipse. I don't recall why we chose this particular hotel but the prices were reasonable, it was well inside the path of totality, and wasn't too far from DFW. Check-in on April 7 was a breeze and we really liked our room (#217) which had a comfy king-size bed as well as an ample work area with a large desk and couch that opened to a bed if needed. (This was one of their Executive Suites.) Bed was comfy, bathroom/shower/toilet were fine, and even though we were near the elevator, noise wasn't an issue. On the day of the eclipse, we chose to use the back parking lot as our base camp. We had a great free buffet breakfast - the sausages I thought were REALLY good - and the hotel let us take out some tables and chairs t our area. Overall, everything went well. You can certainly make an argument that some areas of the hotel show wear and tear - the indoor pool seems a bit dated and the chairs in the breakfast area show significant wear - but IMHO that's nitpicking. We had a lovely stay, the staff was very pleasant and helpful, and we'd go there again.

The customer service skills of every worker I came into contact with was lacking. My dauggter and I stayed the night for a volleyball tournament. On Sundays, the breakfast starts at 7:00. As we were leaving at 6:30 in the morning, athletic gear and bags in tow, I peeked around the corner and asked the worker for a banana that was sitting in the bowl. She said yes. As we were walking out the door to leave, another worker (maybe security worker) said rudely, “breakfast starts at 7:00.” I responded, I know that breakfast starts at 7:00, but I just got a banana and we have to leave. If it didn’t take 15 minutes to wait for a front desk worker to show up at check in and having only about 5 channels on the tv, I probably would not be writing a review. I’m a platinum member and this is the definitely the worse customer hotel service I’ve ever had.

Disappointing for Marriott, needs major work

To be completely honest I booked this place because of the price. It was a short 2 nights, the pictures looked fine. I figured, how bad can it be? Well it was pretty bad. The pictures must have been taken 10 years ago and this hotel has taken on a lot of wear and tear since. Everywhere you look there is something either dirty or falling apart. The front staff especially the male attendant cannot be bothered to say good morning or a simple hello. After seeing the property I had no faith that the pool was safe to swim in so we did not. The breakfast was average at best. In the room, the bed itself was fine, which is important. Overall also dated and in poor condition. The bathroom had several loose and cracked tiles. Not gonna beat a dead horse. If you have other options, take it.

Not The Marriott I Remember

Check-in was puzzling. What is the point of completing the "Preferences and Accessibility" portion (which is shown in the "Reservation Details") if you are ASKED the same questions, not CONFIRMING the choices you already made, again at check-in? The property is poorly maintained. The secondary entrance is not secured. The door doesn't latch when closed and the card reader is not operable. Seating in the the dining room is nearly worn through. Our room had an unpleasant smell. It reminded me of a wet puppy. The porcelain is worn in the toilet and tub area. The housekeeping is lacking, the mattress is uncomfortable, the pillows are flat and extra towels were not provided as requested. This is not what I expect of Marriott and it certainly is not a place I would recommend.
